Last week, the Parliament of the Republic of Uganda successfully conducted the swearing-in ceremony of the 529 MPs elected in January 2021 to the 11th Parliament. This involved MPs taking the oaths of allegiance and Member of Parliament and was presided over by Jane L. Kibirige, who is the Clerk to Parliament. The ceremony which started on Monday 17th May 2021, was concluded with the swearing-in of 131 MPs on Thursday 20th May 2021. It was widely broadcasted on key traditional and new media platforms such as TV and across the country. This was to enable other MPs’ relatives and the citizen of Uganda at large to follow the event and share in jubilation since the event allowed a few entourage. These are expected to start work effective 24th May, 2021. During this sitting, the new Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Parliament will be voted and sworn in.
